Tim, driving for Redline Racing, has had a storming season so far and has an unprecedented lead in the season at this stage. With ten wins so far out of the 14 races, and second place in the remaining four, Tim is on track to win his second Carrera Cup title; but the pressure is mounting as the drivers head into the last three rounds. Michael Caine has won three out of the last four races, including the double at Silverstone, and is hot on Tim’s heels. Other threats come in the forms of Stephen Jelley, Euan Hankey and local driver Glynn Geddie.

All of the competitors will be chasing points at the challenging Knockhill circuit, which has become well known for changing the fortunes of a series. Unpredictable weather in Fife always catches out some of the teams, but Tim is positive as he travels up to Scotland. “Anyone would rather be in my position as we head into the final six races – but we all know that, in motorsport, anything can happen. One race really can change it all, so my objective for Knockhill is the same as ever – get pole and win… and, if not, finish as high as possible!

“Even though we still achieved two seconds at Silverstone, it was the first time we’ve had any problems with the car all season, as we lost pace in both races, but the team has worked hard to resolve this issue, so we are all confident that this won’t happen again. The micro-climate at Knockhill is always interesting – but I’m planning to just keep finishing without taking unnecessary risks.”

Michael Wilmshurst, the Chief Executive of Nationwide, is particularly looking forward to this weekend’s racing, “We know that Tim has an historic lead, and we are convinced that he is in a strong position to maintain his points gap at Knockhill, but I’m not sure if it is more nerve-racking seeing Tim leading the championship at this stage, or watching him fight his way up the table! Either way, it is great to see the team at Nationwide getting excited about this. And, as that is close to 2,500 people across the business - there is a lot of positive energy about! We have 400 guests at Knockhill this weekend and I know they will all be cheering Tim on.”

Carrera Cup qualifying is on Saturday 4 September 2010 at 14.00, with the first race at 10.20 on Sunday and the second race at 16.10. The second race is due to be shown live on ITV4 in the extensive BTCC race day programme, which starts at 11.30. In addition, the next dedicated coverage for the 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB will be broadcast during the Motorsport UK programme on ITV4 at 17.00 on Tuesday 31 August, and on ITV1 on Sunday 5 September. This will also be repeated on ITV4 on Sunday 5 September. Round twelve of the season at Snetterton will feature in this programme. Motorsport UK can also be watched at itv.com and is available for viewing for 28 days after the initial broadcast date.

Ends

The lucky winner of the £50 prize-draw was Paul Butterfield, whose message was picked at random last Monday from the 186 squares laid on the floor of the mall with messages of support for the Hospice. The first square was laid down by four year old Kaine Reeves, a young patient from the hospice, and since then it has grown and grown. This giant heart that developed on the floor of The Mall Luton was a great symbol of the generosity of local people.

Brian McFarland, General Manager of The Mall Luton, said “This has been a novel way to raise awareness and support for the Hospice and has created lots of interest. We are delighted with the response we received and are very grateful to our shoppers for supporting this worthwhile local charity.”

Well, your opportunity has arrived! Former World Champion, Carl Morris will be in Central Square in The Mall Luton from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st August, challenging shoppers to a game in order to raise money for the charity Against Breast Cancer.
Carl ‘Houdini’ Morris is a gifted and charismatic pool player. He was World Champion by the time he was just 21 despite being profoundly deaf as a result of childhood meningitis. Today his skills as a pool player and a showman thrill amuse audiences throughout the UK – and raise vital funds for charity.
For a £3 donation, you can pit your skills with a cue against a world champion on the green baize.
Carl and ‘Charity Pool Exhibitions’, his business that helps raise funds as well as the profile of the charity, Against Breast Cancer, have so far raised just over £100,000 and are aiming to raise £1m for charity. To help achieve this target, anyone who donates a minimum of £500 will be entitled to host an exhibition by Carl ‘Houdini’ Morris at their own venue or workplace!
Carl’s spectacular playing style is a joy to watch - a high level of world-class pool, with clearances being done in less than 60 seconds, plenty of lively banter and audience participation. Each exhibition is a unique entertainment experience that draws enthusiastic crowds who talk about the experience for many months afterwards.
Lavinia Holland, Marketing Manager from The Mall Luton says “We are very excited about Carl Morris coming to The Mall Luton. This is a fantastic way to raise money for Against Breast Cancer and we hope lots of shoppers turn up to donate funds and challenge Carl to a game or two!”
Anne Hall, PR Manager for Against Breast Cancer, says; “Against Breast Cancer funds unique research to increase survival after diagnosis and ultimately to discover a vaccine against breast cancer. What ‘Charity Pool Exhibitions’ is doing is a brilliant and unique way to fundraise, it’s not often you get the opportunity to donate to a charity and in return secure a pool exhibition by a former world pool champion! We are pleased they are doing this for us.”
So, if you fancy your chances of beating a professional, why not come along and pit your skills but, win or lose, the true winner will be the charity, and your generosity will have helped to make a difference.
When Tim Harvey lines up at Snetterton next weekend (7/8 August 2010) for rounds 11 and 12 of the championship, spectators will notice a difference: the livery of the championship leading Red Line Racing Porsche has been revamped to reflect important changes at Nationwide – Tim’s major sponsor.

Nationwide is the largest automotive vehicle body repair in the UK with 71 bodyshops, a fleet of glass and body mobile repair vans, and a rapidly expanding accident management business. However, to make life clearer for car drivers and fleet managers across the UK, the business will now be promoting its extensive services under one brand, quite simply: Nationwide. Over the months ahead, all of the company’s communications, including its website, will be revamped to reflect this simplification. However, Tim’s championship leading car, in the high profile and prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup, is the first time the new branding will be used.

The reason for this change? Even though over 190,000 customers use Nationwide’s services every year, many people still think that they can only go to Nationwide via an insurance company.

However, customers can phone Nationwide if they have a cracked windscreen, or if they would like a paint chip repaired on their driveway, and get an appointment at a time and date which suits them. They can pop in to a Nationwide repair centre to get a quote for repairs or restorations to a vehicle, and receive a competitive, professional estimate – costing much less than many of their competitors, but with the quality expected from the UK’s leading body repairer.

In addition, Nationwide has more accident management experience and automotive insurance claims handling than any other organisation in the UK, and offers these professional and reliable services to insurance companies, rental organisations and businesses operating large fleets.

Tim has already notched up nine wins out of the 10 races so far this season, and is leading the championship by 29 points. However, with many driver hot on Tim’s heels and marking him as the man to beat, Tim is not about to become complacent at the East Anglian circuit. “Although it is great to be in the lead at this point in the championship, everything can change very quickly in motorsport. My strategy is to keep winning, keep getting in front, and maintain that position. The break allows everyone to take stock and refocus, so I’m expecting that Snetterton is going to be fiercely contested and very exciting.”

The qualifying for the Porsche Carrera Cup is on Saturday 7 August at 14.45, with both races on Sunday at 9.10 and 15.00. The second race is due to be shown live BTCC race day programme on ITV4, which starts at 11.30am.

Ends

The Herald & Post and The Mall Luton have joined forces to support the local charity Keech Hospice Care, in the ‘Luton Has Heart’ competition, which will see one lucky person win a £50 gift card from The Mall.

The ‘Luton Has Heart’ competition was launched on Thursday 5 August at midday in Smith’s Square by four year old Kaine Reeves who is helped by the Keech Hospice. Kaine, who was accompanied by his mother, brother Jordan, and Keech Hospice Staff, laid the very first ‘heart’ message on the floor.

Kaine’s mother Natalie commented, “It was an honour to be asked to represent Keech for the opening, Keech has been a life line for our family. Because of Kaine’s needs we do not get much rest at night and Keech gives us the opportunity to catch up on much needed sleep. They have supported us emotionally during tough times. Kaine also benefits from their community team who offer play sessions and music sessions in our own home, which makes such a difference as Kaine has not been well enough to access school and aid his development.”

To join in the fun, support Keech Hospice Care and be in with a chance of winning £50. Simply cut out this red square, fill in your name, telephone number and a message for the hospice and take it down to the Ask Me Point in The Mall Luton at any time between today and Sunday 22 August 2010.

Your square will make up part of a giant heart laid out on the floor of the Mall, and your name will go into a lucky dip. The winning entry will be drawn at midday on Monday 23 August next to the heart in Smith’s Square (outside M&S). The winning entry will win a cool £50 Mall gift card - perfect for summer holiday shopping.

Jacqui Shepherd, Director of Fundraising from Keech Hospice Care, stated, “The team from the Mall are wonderful supporters of Keech, we can’t thank them enough for this fantastic idea and getting the local shoppers and the local paper involved in building the giant heart. This is a true partnership. This all started with NatWest giving us £50 notes to give to local business and in return asking them to generate much needed funds in an imaginative way. The team from the Mall have really stepped up to the challenge. I hope everyone will support them and our families by building the heart”.

There is no entry fee however we hope that everyone who participates will make a donation to Keech Hospice Care. The lucky winner will be announced in the Herald & Post on Thursday 26th August.
