Family Fun at The Valentine’s Day Showcase of Local Businesses at The Chiltern Hotel

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

img_4118Love really was in the air on Saturday night (13 February 2010), as three local businesses showcased their services to 250 delighted guests at a Valentine’s night celebration at The Chiltern Hotel, supported by Toni Patti from the Breakfast Show on Sunrise Radio.

Designed to demonstrate the high quality conference and wedding facilities and services available from The Chiltern Hotel, Shobhas (Luton) Limited and Eastern Touch Weddings, the evening was a huge success. Luton catering company Shobha’s, owned by local business woman Shobha Sharma, provided the food which included Italian and Chinese dishes in addition to the Asian food that Shobha is famous for.

Eastern Touch, from Ramridge Road, dressed the banqueting suite with star-cloth and roses, creating a thoroughly romantic atmosphere. The three businesses invited past and potential clients to the event, but tickets sold out within days, and over 400 tickets were actually requested. People travelled from Northampton, Watford, Milton Keynes and London to be at the event, with one family taking 70 tickets.

Shobha Sharma, Managing Director of Shobha’s (UK) Ltd said “This has been a brilliant event for us. The evening was great fun, especially with Tony Patti leading the dancing and games! Many people prefer to celebrate Valentine’s day with their whole family, not just as a couple, and we were delighted that so many people decided they wanted to be with us.”

Shobha’s (UK) Ltd has been producing the finest Asian cuisine since 1991, freshly preparing all their food in their kitchens in Luton. They provide catering for weddings and corporate events across the UK, and offer a range of Italian and Chinese food to complement the delicious Asian dishes the company is famous for. Shobha’s range of high quality frozen meals can be found in supermarkets and retailers around the world.

Diwali Celebrations Make Delightful Donations for Local Cancer Care

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Three local Luton businesses have raised £700 for The Cancer and Palliative Care Service, part of NHS Luton Community Services, from a festive charity event held to celebrate Diwali.

Luton-based catering company Shobha’s (UK) Ltd was joined by local Asian wedding specialist Eastern Touch and The Chiltern Hotel to organise a fundraising venture during Diwali, designed to showcase the skills of the three businesses and to thank existing clients. Over one hundred guests attended the completely free event, which took place in a fabulously-dressed function room at The Chiltern Hotel. The team at Shobha’s provided a free three course mouth-watering meal and Eastern Touch supplied the entertainment and dancing which lasted well into the evening.

Jane England, Team Administration Manager at The Cancer and Palliative Care Service, Luton Community Services, explained that the money will be used locally to help provide specialised medical equipment for people with cancer; it will also be used to buy other items to help make the lives of patients more comfortable.

Shobha Sharma, Managing Director of Shobha’s (UK) Ltd said “It has been so rewarding to be involved in this event, particularly as it supported a cause which touches so many people locally. We always look forward to celebrating Diwali, but giving something back has made this year extra special.”

Shobha’s (UK) Ltd has been producing the finest Asian cuisine since 1991, and takes pride in the fact that all their food is freshly prepared in their kitchens in Luton. They provide catering for weddings and corporate events across the UK, and even supported the Diwali event at the House of Commons this year. Shobha’s also creates a range of high quality frozen meals which can be found in supermarkets and retailers around the world.

Eastern Touch was established in Luton in 2003 by Syed Abedin, Rashid Mahmood and Majid Khalil to provide specialised wedding services. Shobha's Catering

Shobha's Catering

Luton based Indian catering company, Shobha’s (UK) Limited, has just completed its biggest and most profitable single export order to date, following the management team’s bold decision to fly to Sweden following a small enquiry in March this year.

When Oriental, a large Swedish wholesaler contacted them about Shobha’s range of high quality Asian ready meals, the management team decided that the proof was in the pudding or, more precisely, in the samosa, and personally took samples to Gothenburg to meet the buyers, demonstrate the quality of Shobha’s freshly prepared products, and show their passion, flare and talent for Indian cuisine.

Five months later, Shobha’s received an order worth over £12,000 as a test to gauge the success of the products in Sweden. The order included 80,000 lamb, chicken and vegetable samosas as well as kebabs, chicken bites, spring rolls and naan breads. The dishes were prepared within seven days by the dedicated team at Shobha’s catering, who worked through the night to complete the order and make sure that the five pallets of meals were ready for when the freezer lorry arrived.

This delivery was the first to a distributor in Scandinavia, and promises future orders and growth of sales for Shobha’s products in this region. Shobha Sharma, owner of Shobha’s (UK) Limited is thrilled with the recent success and commented “This was our largest ever single export order and we did everything we could to make it one of the best. We are really proud that our swift and pro-active approach worked so well. It was new, exciting but a little bit daunting for us and we hope it revives some faith for other companies.”

Shobha’s (UK) Limited was established in 1991 and began by providing Indian catering for small parties in and around Bedfordshire, later expanding their professional service to large wedding banquets and international wholesalers. In addition to the catering services, Shobha’s now produce a range of high-quality, home-cooked ready meals that are supplied under Shobha’s branding, and under other brand names, to supermarkets and retailers around the world.

Food Fit For A President - Luton Company Support International Conference

Saturday, June 27th, 2009
Shobha's Catering

Shobha's Catering

23 June 2009. Luton, UK. Shobha’s (UK) Limited.

Shobha’s (UK) Ltd in Luton, Bedfordshire was highly honoured recently when the company was chosen to provide the catering at a high profile event at the Nehru Centre in London, which featured the former president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as the guest speaker. Dr Kalam is the eleventh President of India and one of the country’s most distinguished scientists.

The team at Shobha’s, headed by new owner Shobha Sharma, was delighted to win this prestigious contract, particularly as there was fierce competition from London catering companies to supply this exclusive venue. With an excellent reputation for creating outstanding Asian cuisine, Shobha’s was also asked to provide all the waiting staff for the event; so the whole team had the pleasure of meeting the dignitaries who attended.

The conference, which took place on Tuesday 9 June, was a significant cultural event for the Indian community in the UK as it brought together political and business leaders from India and the UK to discuss the emergence of India as a global leader in economic resuscitation, entrepreneurial activity and meaningful development for all people in India. Dr Kalam, who has received honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions, is now focused on transforming India into a developed nation by 2020. The conference was hosted by GOPIO (Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin) and FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry), represented and assisted by Lord Rana, a member of the House of Lords and India’s honorary consul in Belfast, on behalf of GOPIO, and Lord Dholakia and Harsh Pati Singhania on behalf of FICCI.

The speakers included Dr Vince Cable, the Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor of the Liberal Democrats in the UK. An eminent economist, he is recognised as the leading authority in the UK on the economic recession, its causes and consequences; Lord Desai, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the LSE and founder of the Centre for the Study of Global Governance. Lord Desai has received the Pravasi Bharatiya Puruskar for Overseas Indians of Distinction in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan awarded by the Government of India 2008.

“We were extremely proud to be asked to support this event,” explained Shobha. “The Nehru Centre is wonderful venue and it was an honour to meet Lord Rana and Dr Kalam. And both of them took the time to tell us how much they enjoyed the food!”

Shobha’s (UK) Limited was established in 1991 and, from kitchen-table beginnings, has developed into a respected and innovative business. Providing Indian catering for small parties to large wedding banquets, the team at Shobha’s creates every menu specifically for the occasion, with particular skill at providing regional and international dishes. Building on this success, Shobha’s range of foods is now available in stores across the UK and in Holland, freshly frozen without compromising taste and quality.
